Marthleen “Martie” Ater, 81, of Milan passed away at 2 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 27, 1942, the daughter of Sydney and Evelyn Norcutt Redburn. She was married to Louis Ater on May 5, 1963 and he preceded her in death on September 12, 1992. Survivors include four sons, Lane (Ruth) Ater of Jeffersonville, Larry (Joline) Ater of Killeen, Texas, Louis (Stacy) Ater of Evansville, and Lance Ater of Austin; one daughter Kirsten Frazier of Erlanger, Kentucky; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Rodney Priest. Mrs. Ater was a 1960 graduate of Shepherdsville (Ky) High School. After raising her family, Martie returned to school and received her Associates Degree from Ivy Tech to become an LPN. Her working career spanned many years, serving in nursing homes in Scottsburg and Louisville and working locally for Advantage Health Care. Martie was a very giving person, and especially loved helping others and taking care of and cooking for her family, friends, and anyone else who was nearby. Her main focus in life was her relentless faith and love for the Lord. Martie was a member of the Cavehill Church of God and attended the Bridge of Hope as long as her health would allow. Her wishes were to be cremated and burial will take place on February 1st at Raymond Baptist Church Cemetery in Webster, Kentucky at 12PM Central Time. In addition, there will be a memorial service at the Kingdom Life Church in Sellersburg, Indiana on Tuesday, January 30th from 3PM to 8PM Eastern Time.
