Norman Loal Patterson, 89, of Versailles passed away peacefully at 12:20AM on Wednesday, June 26,
2024 at the Norton Healthcare Pavilion in Louisville, KY. Born on September 19, 1934 in Burlington, IA,
he is the son of Margaret and Bertie Patterson.
Following his graduation from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, OH, Norman enlisted in the
United States Army where he served for two years as a Specialist 5, SPC, following the Korean War. On
June 29, 1957, he married his loving wife, Patricia Ann Downey, of 66 years, at Westwood Baptist
Church. Residing in Cincinnati, Norman opened and operated Tonyís Fruit Market, a beloved destination
known for its exceptional quality of the freshest fruits and vegetables, with his brother, Paul Patterson, for
27 years. He later opened an antique shop, called Pattersonís Crossing, in Morrow, Ohio, which thrived
for 12 years.
Norman was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church for 21 years where he served as the Music
Minister in conjunction with his wife who served as the Lead Pianist. He and Patricia continued serving
in similar roles for 22 years at Harvest Baptist Church in Cincinnati, OH. In 2013, Patricia and Norman
moved to Versailles, IN to be closer to his wifeís home roots and became members of the Dabney Baptist
Church.
Normanís passion for environmental stewardship shone through his 17-year tenure at Pattersonís Nursery
Garden Center, where he nurtured many flowering plants and trees. His dedication touched countless
lives, offering personalized services that fostered a deep connection within the community. Norman was
a loving husband, heroic father, admired grandfather, treasured great-grandfather, and a faithful follower
in Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his son David Patterson of Holton, IN; daughter-in-law Sharon Patterson of Harrison,
OH; grandchildren Tiffany (Brian) Dattilo, Clarice Patterson, Rebekah (Elijah) Mohler, and Abraham
Patterson; and great-grandchildren Vincent and Santino Dattilo. He was also preceded in death by his
parents, brothers and sisters, wife Patricia Patterson, and son Norman F. Patterson.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at
Dabney Baptist Church before funeral services beginning at 11:00AM. The burial, directly following,
will be at Dabney Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Ripley County Community Foundationís
Greener Tomorrow Fund (#313) in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
