Adah Jane Tyra, 93, of Cross Plains passed away Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Major Hospital in Shelbyville. She was born in Wolfe County, Kentucky on December 18, 1912 the daughter of Alford and Martha Napier Wood. She was married to Arthur Tyra on March 1, 1932 and he preceded her in death on June 30, 1976. Survivors include two daughters, Oneda Anderson and her husband Murrell of Waldron and Martha Davies and her husband William of Scipio; 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, one brother Everett Wood and his wife Myrle of Cross Plains; three sisters, Nannie Whisman of Naples, Florida, Virginia Liter of Canaan, and Irene Scudder and her husband Millard of Dillsboro. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alford and James Wood, and sisters Daisy Tyra, Betty Wood, and Martha Whisman. Mrs. Tyra was a homemaker and had lived in the Dewberry community near Cross Plains for sixty years. She enjoyed reading her Bible, attending church, quilting, and various kinds of needle work. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 5 at 1pm at the Bear Creek Baptist Church at Friendship with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery at Cross Plains. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11am until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.
