Agnes L. Lovins, 71, of Versailles passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born at Vevay on November 7, 1936 the daughter of Chance and Blanche Spencer Steele. She was married to Kenneth Lovins on May 21, 1960 and he survives. Other survivors include one son Steven Lovins of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; two daughters, Theresa (Ron) May of Versailles and Tina Lovins of St. Cloud, Florida; two step-daughters, Theresa Lovins of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Cathy (Jerry) Sanders of Windell, North Carolina; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Genola Marsh of Tempe, Arizona, and Eva Goodpaster of Versailles; one brother Sam Steele of Little Rock, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lil Schmidt, and her brothers Darrell and Verlin Steele. Mrs. Lovins served as Matron of the Ripley County Jail for sixteen years during the terms of sheriff of her husband and son. She had also been employed with US Shoe, Alco of Versailles, and the Ripley Publishing Company. She had been on the board of directors for SEIOC for 15 years. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the New Marion Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
