Aubrey O. (Babe) Estell

Aubrey O. (Babe) Estell, 99, of New Marion passed away Thursday, March 20 at the home of his daughter in Taylorsville. He was born at Willow Branch in Hancock County, Indiana on September 22, 1903 the son of Joseph and Mary Lyda Gibson Estell. He was married to Mary Kennens on November 30, 1936 and she preceded him in death on February 29, 1988. Survivors include five daughters; Clara Clem of Brownsburg, Shirley Franklin of Holton, Judy Roberts of Taylorsville, Marsha Grigsby of Spencer, OK, and Cheryl Robbins of North Vernon; one son Rick Estell of Holton; fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Russell, Bryan, and Raymond Estell and his sisters Gladys Baker and Pearl Toremlin, and two grandchildren. Mr. Estell, along with his brothers constructed many barns and homes in southeastern Indiana. He also operated Estell's Fruit Farm at his home near New Marion. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. John Willis and Kent Carter officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4pm to 8pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Baptist Church or the Holton Cemetery.
