Avis Cox

Avis Cox, 88, of Osgood passed away Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown. She was born at Whitesburg in Letcher County, Kentucky on October 28, 1922 the daughter of George and Caney Ingram Cornett. She was married to Monroe Cox on February 28, 1939 and he preceded her in death on October 23, 1996. Survivors include one daughter Shirley Hamilton of Brownstown; two sons Frank (Blanche) Cox of Osgood and Donald (Jane) Cox of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Jesse, her brothers Elmer Cornett and Gillias Cornett, and her sister Josie Jones. Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star and the Osgood Jolly Circle Homemakers Club. Funeral services will be held Monday, January at 2pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home with Rev. A. J. Poulton officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm to 6pm. Memorials may be given to the Holton Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
