Barbara Corning, 89, of Versailles passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Hickory Creek in Madison. She was born at Bloomington on September 19, 1921 the daughter of Oscar and Mary Brinton Travis. She was married to William Corning on August 11, 1945 and he preceded her in death on August 1, 2005. Mrs. Corning was a 1939 graduate of Bloomington High School and graduated from Indiana University in 1943 with a major in home economics. She had worked as a supervisor for Pogues in Cincinnati. Barbara was a member of the President's Council of Purdue University and was a former board member of Historic Hoosier Hills, Oxbow Inc., and the Ripley County Soil and Water Conservation District. Funeral services will be private with burial in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Roland S. Corning Memorial Fund of the Purdue University School of Civil Engineering in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.
