Bert Britt, 86, of Versailles passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was born on August 27, 1923 at Ansted, West Virginia the son of Preston and Beulah Hypes Britt. He was married to Pauline Peebles on June 2, 1945 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Dan Britt of Hamilton, Ohio; two daughters Linda (Mike) Alprin of Canton, Ohio and Carolyn Sue (Marvin) McNew of Holton; grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Quentin and Edsil Britt, and his daughter-in-law Ruth Britt. Mr. Britt was a Navy veteran of WWII where he served as a Captain's Write. He was a branch manager for Clark Equipment in Chicago and was a former manager of the Ripley County Farm Bureau's hardware store in Osgood. He also had farmed, worked as a carpenter, and had with his wife owned and operated Olde Things Flea Market in Versailles. Mr. Britt was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and the Versailles American Legion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8 at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be Sunday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to Rescue 69 in care of the funeral home.
