Bettie Jane Bishop, 65, of Canaan passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Water's of Ross Manor in Dillsboro. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky on August 1, 1945 the daughter of Pearl and Lillie Mae Colwell Ledford. She was married to Samuel Bishop on December 15, 1962 and he preceded her in death on February 20, 1998. Survivors include three daughters; Norma Jean (David Michael) Greive of Aurora, Julie Ann (Jeffery) Dausch of Greendale, and Malinda (John) Stegemoller of Canaan, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five brothers; Eunice Ledford of Canaan, Arvil (Jerry) Ledford of Dayton, Ohio, Charles (Pauline) Ledford of Dayton, Ohio, Seldon (Delores) Ledford of Chicago, Illinois, and Hubert (Debbie) Ledford of Eaton, Ohio, one sister; Donnetta (David) Pool of Greensburg. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister. Mrs. Bishop was a CPA for her husband's business, Bishop Footers and Foundations, worked as a bookkeeper for Woods Farm Equipment and attended the Bear Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27 at 11am at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Aker's Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home and from 10am until time of services Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Cancer Society or Aker's Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
