Beverly Jean Rodgers, 80, of Versailles, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Ripley Crossing in Milan, Indiana. Born on November 9, 1945, in Harrison, Ohio, she was the daughter of Walter and Beaulah Zarnoch.
Beverly is survived by her two daughters, Kim Jahnigen (Gerald) of Osgood and Kelly Sparks (Ryan) of Dillsboro; and her five adored grandchildren, Tyler Jahnigen (Britta Vance) of Versailles, Parker Jahnigen of Osgood, Trey Sparks of Milan, Kiley Sparks of Greensburg, and Lane Sparks of Milan, and one sister, Patricia Thomas (Charlie) as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Nancy Norman, and her brother John Zarnoch.
She was a 1963 graduate of Cross Plains High School. Beverly dedicated over 20 years of service to the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center as a clerk until a car accident in 1989 prevented her from returning to work. Guided by a spirit of community and service, she was honored as a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary American Legion Post # 173 for her 43 years of dedication, and proudly served as president from 1995 -1996. Beverly was always eager to help others in her role as president. She was also a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.
Above all else, Beverly’s greatest joy was her family. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, and she never missed an opportunity to share with others just how much of a blessing they were to her life. She loved nothing more than spending her spare time cheering on her five grandchildren at their various local activities. When she wasn't with family, she could often be found quietly enjoying a crossword puzzle, drinking a coke, or talking to others about their families. She always seemed to know someone who knew someone and enjoyed connecting. Her enduring parting advice to those she loved was simple, powerful, and true: “Be Happy.”
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 25 at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The celebration of life will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Akers Cemetery in Friendship, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #173 Women’s Auxiliary.
