Chandler Matthew Stearns, 27, of Columbus passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the St. Francis Hospital in Greenwood. He was born at Lawrenceburg on August 2, 1988 the son of Matthew Stearns and Robin Renfro Stearns. Survivors include his father Matt Stearns of Columbus, his mother and step-father Robin Stearns and Bobby Walters of Versailles; his companion Abby Kennedy; three brothers Tyler Stearns of Seymour, Jerad Walters and Jordan Walters both of Versailles; maternal grandmother Rosella Trobaugh of Versailles; paternal grandparents Larry and Martha Stearns of North Vernon; four uncles Steve Renfro of Lawrenceburg, Bill Stearns of Madison, and Bob Stearns and Mark Stearns both of Versailles. Mr. Stearns was a 2007 graduate of South Ripley High School and attended Marian University in Indianapolis. At South Ripley he participated in basketball, baseball, cross country, and track. He was currently employed as a press operator for Impact Forge in Columbus and was a former employee of Columbus Kawasaki. Chandler had also formerly raced the Indiana and Kentucky Motor Cross Circuit. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 13 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Rick Burcham officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Amethyst House, Ripley County Humane Society, or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
