Charles Wm. Braley, 81, of Indianapolis passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Manor Care South in Greenwood. He was born in the Tanglewood community near Versailles on December 29, 1924, the son of Wilcy and Bernice McMartin Braley. He was married to Mary Tekulve on September 13, 1947, and she preceded him in death on April 3, 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Pamara Semmler and her husband Stephen of Indianapolis and Sherry Curd and her husband Stephen of Beech Grove; one son Scott Braley and his wife Sherri of Atlanta; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Braley of Versailles and Harold Braley of Madison; one sister Dorothea Jeffries of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Braley and his sister Naomi Braley.
Mr. Braley was a 1941 graduate of Versailles High School and was an Army veteran of WWII where he served as a platoon sergeant in central Europe receiving two bronze battle stars. He was retired from GM in Indianapolis where he worked as a supervisor in tool design. Mr. Braley was a member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church and attended the Holy Name Catholic Church in Indianapolis. He was also a member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, Beech Grove Lions Club, and the Holy Name Church Men's Club.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 4th at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. David Shivers of the Hopewell Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Tanglewood Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
