Charles F. (Bud) Tompkins, 76, of Versailles passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. He was born in Cincinnati on January 11, 1933 the son of Charles and Helen Nees Tompkins. He was married to Katherine Kohlmeyer on February 5, 1955 and she survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Peggy (Patrick) Owens of Villa Hills, Kentucky, Beth (Mark) Hard of Kansas, Oklahoma, Kathleen (Steven) French of Osgood, and Amy Hedges of Versailles; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters Ruth Wagner of West Harrison and Jennie Martin of Harrison, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn Hyser, and his great-grandson Keith Weise.
Mr. Tompkins was a 1951 graduate of Western Hills High School in Cincinnati. He worked for 28 years as a firefighter with the Cincinnati Fire Department and was also a carpenter. He was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ and the WCEF. He volunteered his carpentry skills in building churches and ramps for those in need.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 28 at 2pm at the Versailles Church of Christ with Dale Day officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Visitation will be Monday from 11am until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Church of Christ in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
