Charles Stephen "Steve" Gibbs, 58, of Holton passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007 at his home. He was born at home on a farm in Wayne County, Illinois on November 28, 1948 the son of Waldon and Patricia Murphy Gibbs. He was married to Dianne Lauersdorf on December 3, 1994 and she survives. Other survivors include his father Waldon Gibbs of Rockford, Illinois; one daughter Stephanie West and her husband Matt of Versailles; grandchildren Braden and Darren Gibbs, Breanna, Gracey, and Matthew West; one brother, Lee Gibbs and his wife Mary of Milledgeville, Illinois; four sisters, Waldena Stewart of Rockford, Illinois, Bonnie Beyer and her husband David of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Lynda Charleston and Don of Altoona, Iowa, and Janice Cawthorne of California; one step-brother Father Ray Schultz of Fairview Heights, Illinois; one step-sister Marilyn Klingemann and her husband Don of Murphysboro, Illinois; his niece Julie Vorachek of Lees Summit, Missouri; nephews Cliff and John Hall of Independence, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his mother, and his step-mother Seva Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs was a former nuclear engineer with Commonwealth Edison in Rockford, Illinois. In 1992 he founded the C.S. Gibbs Corporation which was the parent company of Sure-Loc Archery products. In 2000 he moved his company from South Beloit, Illinois to Versailles. Since 1996 Sure-Loc archery sights have been the choice of Olympic champions and other archers worldwide. Mr. Gibbs was an 8 time National Field Archery Association Champion and a former IBO World Champion. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Olean, Versailles Lions Club, NFAA, IBO, Archery Trade Association, and the Archery Shooters Association. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 24 at 10:30am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Olean with Pastor Dennis Zimmerman and Father Ray Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the donors choice.
