**Clofus Jones, 86, of Versailles** passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 at his home. He was born near Barboursville in Knox County, Kentucky on September 29, 1927 the son of John and Phema Grills Jones. He was married to Marjorie Whitham and she preceded him in death on August 7, 1992. Survivors include his daughter-in-law Barbara Jones and his grandson Kenneth Jones both of Sunman; one brother Grover (Joan) Jones of Canaan; four sisters Ethel Mills of Versailles, Flora Cooper of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Hazel Randolph and Bessie Clipp both of Jeffersonville. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sons David Jones and Clofus Wayne Jones, brothers Otis, Arnold, Shelby, Ernest, Garnet, and Clifton Jones, and his sisters Effie Day and Thelma Jones. Mr. Jones farmed his entire life and was a former employee of Seagrams in Lawrenceburg as well as the Madison State Hospital. He was an Army veteran, serving as a Corporal from 1946 to 1948 with the 1537 AAF, and he received the WWII Victory Medal. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 1 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mike Cantrell of the Versailles Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery near Cross Plains. Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm to 6pm. Memorials may be given to the Salem Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
