Clovis A. Lemen, 94, of Canaan passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison.
He was born near Benham on November 2, 1914 the son of Avery and Nellie Thornton Lemen. He is survived by his nieces Deanna Wooley of Madison, Margaret Wilson of Batesville, Wanda Schwendenmann of Cincinnati, and Gloria Bradshaw of Indianapolis; nephews Russell Thornton of Lawrenceburg and Don Furlow of Seymour. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edward Lemen and Preston Lemen, sisters Norma Stiverson, Flo Voris, Opal Furlow, and Hope Burress, nephews RC Voris and Dennis Lemen, and his niece Pauline Burress Crockett.
Mr. Lemen was a veteran of WWII where he served in the 135 Medical Group, rising to the rank of sergeant. He was in engagements in the Southern Philippines, Luzon, East Indies, Papuan, New Guinea, and Bismarck Archipelago. He received the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with six bronze stars.
In 1946 he began employment with Fischer Body at Norwood, Ohio where he worked until retirement in 1977. He was also a former resident of Cincinnati.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 8 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Thursday from 10am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Benham Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
