Clyde C. Allen, Jr., 74, of Versailles passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010 at his home. He was born at Lexington, Kentucky on September 3, 1936 the son of Clyde C. Allen, Sr. and Evelyn Rose Allen. He was married to Edna Stinson on August 17, 1957 and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter Kathy (Scott) Gratrix of Castle Rock, Colorado; three sons Robert (Sharon) Allen of Charlestown, Keith (Tammy) Allen of Madison, and Steve (Sharon) Allen of Georgetown; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one sister Annette (Buford) Cobb of Pee Wee Valley, Kentucky; two brothers John (Cheryl) Allen of Beaver Creek, Ohio and Jim (Sherry) Allen of Val Rico, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bruce Allen.
Mr. Allen was a 1954 graduate of Lafayette High School in Lexington and received his BS degree in agriculture from the University of Kentucky in 1958. He served as Ripley County Extension Agent for 30 years and was a member of the Indiana Extension Educators Association. He was also a charter member of the SIRDP and a charter member of the Ripley County Community Foundation.
Mr. Allen was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, choir member, and moderator. He was also active in the Versailles Lions Club serving as a trustee to Camp Woodsmoke as well as many district offices. Mr. Allen was also a past Lion of the Year, a Sagamore of the Wabash, and a Kentucky Colonel.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 17 at 10am at the Versailles Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Cantrel and Rev. Mike Allen officiating. Graveside services will be Friday at 1:30pm at the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky. Visitation will be Thursday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home and from 9am until time of services Friday at the church. The Versailles Lions Club will hold a memorial service Thursday at 8pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Ripley County Community Foundation, the Versailles Lions Club, or the Versailles Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
