Dale G. Irvin, 85, of New Marion passed away at 7pm, Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born in Blanchester, Ohio on June 1, 1935 the son of Arthur and Ester Brothers Irvin. He was married to Eleanor Knittel on June 21, 1969 and his wife of 51 years survives. Other survivors include one daughter Beth (Rodney) Reed of Louisville; one son Glenn Irvin of Owensboro, Kentucky; one brother Cliff (Kathy) Rider of Carpentersville, Illinois; two sisters Mary Lou Walker of Cincinnati and Alice Irvin of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-sisters Jenny Neville and Jean Morris, and his step-brother James Ryder. Mr. Irvin was a 1953 graduate of Tech High School in Indianapolis. He served in the US Navy from May 6, 1954 until April 23, 1958 where he was stationed in Puerto Rico as an Industrial Manager with the Tenth Naval District. For service to his country, Dale was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In civilian life, Dale taught industrial electronics at the Northern Campbell Technical Vocational School in Highland Heights, Kentucky. He and Ellie moved from Cincinnati to their home near New Marion in 2002. Dale was a member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis and was a life member and past commander of the Versailles American Legion. Dale's wishes were to be cremated and there will be a memorial graveside service at 11am on Saturday, August 29 at the New Marion cemetery with Rev. Ed Roberts officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery or the Versailles American Legion in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
