David Begley, 87, of Versailles
passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at his home. He was born on Bull Creek near Dry Hill in Leslie County, Kentucky on May 28, 1927 the son of Joe and Maxie Melton Begley. He was married to Clara Noble in 1945 and she preceded him in death on October 29, 1996. Survivors include one son Charlie Begley of Lawrenceburg; 7 grandchildren James Begley, Chris Begley, John Begley, Charles David Begley, Jaclyn Begley, Jack Begley, and Samantha Begley, and 16 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his son Jack Begley, his brother J. L. Begley, sisters Alveda Sizemore, Jeneda Shircliff, and Hattie Jean Lewis, and his great-grandson Matthew Willman. Mr. Begley was an Army veteran of WWII where he served with the 5 Army in Japan. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Occupation of Japan Medal. He was a truck driver employed with Gateway Trucking in Cincinnati, retiring in 1979. David was a member of the VFW, the Teamsters, and a former American Legion member. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29 at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 11am until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
