David L. Farrell, 77, of Cross Plains
passed away at 11:35 a.m.,
Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison.
He was born near Rexville on September 10, 1947, the son of Carl and
Louise Housefield Farrell. Survivors include two sons
Bryan (Ashley) Farrell of Canaan and David Lee Farrell of Versailles;
one daughter Dionne Gehrum of Rising Sun; 4 grandchildren and 3
great-grandchildren; two brothers John Farrell of Rexville and Richard
Farrell of Versailles; one sister Viola (Steve) Cappel
of Louisville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers
Donald, Chester, Jimmy, and Henry, and his sisters Naomi Hibbard,
Goldina Brock, and Lula White. Mr. Farrell attended school at Cross
Plains. On November 1, 1966 he entered the US Army and
served with the 94th Artillery Battalion. For services to his country,
David was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After being
discharged from the Army on September 3, 1968, David began his working
career. He was a former employee of the Ripley
County Highway Department, R. L. Wood Excavating, and had also driven a
bus for South Ripley Schools. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. David was
a member of the Shelby Christian Church and the Versailles American
Legion. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday,
October 2 at 7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in
Versailles with Randy Thieman officiating. Visitation will begin at 5 pm
with burial following at a later date at the Shelby Cemetery. Memorials
may be given to the donor's choice in care of the
funeral home.
