Delfert M. Cox, 83, of Holton passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at his home. He was born in the Hopewell community near Holton on January 2, 1926 the son of Willard and Lucy Cumberworth Cox. He was married to Helen Dotson on December 9, 1947 and she preceded him in death on June 10, 1988. Survivors include his companion Rita Sizemore; one son Ronnie Cox of Holton; two daughters Carolyn Sue (Kenny) Keyes of Holton and Peggy (Jack) Ryan of Bloomington; four grandchildren Andy (Carrie) Keyes and Tracy Keyes both of Holton, Jim Keyes of Butlerville, and Baron Ryan of Bloomington; three great-grandchildren; one brother Delmar Cox of Holton. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gnelle Harrell, and his brother Dale Cox. Mr. Cox was a 1944 graduate of Holton High School. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he served with the 263 Infantry. He was in engagements in Northern France and received the EAME Theatre Ribbon with one bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and the WWII Army Occupation of Germany Medal. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and the VFW. Mr. Cox was also a farmer and along with his son managed Cox Livestock near Osgood. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10 at 10:30am at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9:30am until time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Cemetery or the Hospice of Jennings County in care of the funeral home.
