Dexter A. Day, 59, of Versailles passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his residence. He was born at Rising Sun on July 17, 1950 the son of Harlan and Effie Jones Day. He was married to Claudette Hager on July 6, 1983 and she survives. Other survivors include four sons Mark (Angela) Day of Lexington, KY, Stacy (Kristin) Day of Salvisa, KY, Nathan Day of Lexington, KY, and Jason Covert of Versailles; three daughters Stephanie (Keith) Copeland of Milan, Sherry (Bo) Copley of Williamson, WV and Donna Day of Cross Plains; sixteen grandchildren, three brothers; Clinton Day and Clayton Day both of Versailles and Norman (Brenda) Day of Osgood, one sister; Rebecca (Jerry) Hunteman of North Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers; Denver and Wendell. Mr. Day was retired from the military where he served 22 years with the Army and Marines and also with the Kentucky Army National Guard. He served during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, and was also qualified as a sharpshooter. Mr. Day was a 1968 graduate of South Ripley High School and was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 8 at 1pm at the Versailles Church of Christ with Dale Day and Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 12pm until time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to the donors choice.
