Donald J. Clark Sr., 71, of Versailles passed away at 12:20am, Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Aspen Health Campus in Greensburg. He was born at Milan on December 28, 1948 the son of Chester and Bertha Juilfs Clark. Survivors include one daughter Christy (Steve) Scoggins of Versailles; one son Donald (Rhonda) Clark, Jr. of Austin; 5 grandchildren Stephanie Scoggins of Columbus, Ohio, DJ Scoggins of Cincinnati, Melany (Hargis) Combs of Austin, Morgan Clark of Versailles, and Michael Clark of Austin; 3 great-grandchildren; one brother Marvin Clark, along with several nieces and nephews. Mr. Clark was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he served with the 4 US Army. He entered the Army on March 27, 1967 and was stationed in Vietnam from July 27, 1968 to July 26, 1969. For service to his country Don received the Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf cluster, Sharpshooter Qualification Badge, and the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Stars. In civilian life Don worked for Batesville Casket Company for 30 years. Donald excitedly socialized with anyone, especially if there was a beer involved! He enjoyed frequenting the Legion and looked forward to "happy hour" on Fridays at Aspen Place. Everyone could recognize Donald with his signature look of veteran ball cap, overalls, and his pocket watch. Donald was a collector. He enjoyed many things such as movies, guns, canes, knives, matchbox lighters, and pocket watches. Donald enjoyed sharing his collections and stories with family and friends. He loved kids and was sure to offer them either a "knuckle sandwich" or his famous potato candy that he loved to make for holidays and family get-togethers. Donald will be dearly missed by those who cared for him, friends, and family. Donald was a member of the Versailles American Legion. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December at 2pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mike Cantrell officiating. Visitation will also be on Thursday beginning at 1pm. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery at Dillsboro with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion or the Hospice of South Central Indiana in care of the funeral home.
