**Donald W. Gilland**, 84, of Napoleon passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. He was born near Napoleon on November 5, 1928 the son of Charles and Dora Schuerman Gilland. He was married to Mary Simon on October 22, 1952 and she survives. Other survivors include three sons Rick (Cindy) Gilland of Holton, Mark (Lorrie) Gilland, and Steve (Julie) Gilland both of Osgood; three daughters Debbie (Jerry) Potts of Brownsburg, Cindi (Rick) Ahlrich, and Joni (Carl) Lunsford both of Osgood; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George Gilland, and his sisters Ethel Siebert, Dorothy Hicks, Myrtle Thomas, Norma Whisman, and Virginia Reisman. Mr. Gilland was a 1947 graduate of Napoleon High School and was a member of the Bearcat's basketball team who won both the County and Sectional championships in 1947. He was a lifetime dairy farmer and also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, having built his house and several outbuildings on his farm. Donald was a member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October at 10am at St. Maurice Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rosary services at 8pm. Memorials may be given to the St. Maurice new entrance project in care of the funeral home.
