Donald Gene Hicks, 75, of Napoleon passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010 at St. Andrew's Health Campus in Batesville. He was born near Napoleon on December 26, 1934 the son of Vern and Luella Winters Hicks. He was married to Patricia Straber on Friday, April 13, 1956 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Brad (Karen) Hicks and Bart (Elaine) Hicks both of Napoleon; grandchildren Janine, Matthew (Leslie), Laura, Kristen, Meagan, Jessica, and Erica Hicks; one great-grandson Brayden Hicks. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Hicks was a 1954 graduate of Napoleon High School. He had been employed with the Ripley County Highway Department, Cummins, and the Union Furniture Company in Batesville. He was also a farmer and had driven milk trucks for Bobby Todd and Jack Snyder. He also participated in harness racing throughout the county fair circuit. Mr. Hicks was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Napoleon, the Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, the Eastern Star, and was a 50 year member of the Osgood Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 22 at 11am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Napoleon with Pastor Gary Groth officiating. Burial will be in the Booher Cemetery near Napoleon. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Thursday at the church. Masonic services will be conducted Wednesday evening at 7:30 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Central House or St. John's Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
