Dorothy M. May

Dorothy M. May, 89, of Versailles, formerly of Osgood passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born near New Marion on May 31, 1923 the daughter of William and Mary J. Stratton Swinney. She was married to Leroy May on November 1, 1943 and he preceded her in death on May 16, 2006. Survivors include two sons Gene (Linda) May of Versailles and Don May of North Vernon; son-in-law Reed Back of Versailles; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Barbara Back, her brothers Culver, Cecil, Clifford, Russell, Herschel, and Adrian Swinney, and her sisters Creola Ketzendorf and Zelphia Baurley. Mrs. May was a 1941 graduate of New Marion High School. She was a former employee of Vines Poultry in Osgood and was a 28 year employee of US Shoe in Osgood. Dorothy was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 19 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Daniel May and Rev. Steve Culp officiating. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
