Dorothy M. Smith, 99, of Versailles, formerly of Alexandria, Kentucky passed away at 12:40am Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born at Newport, Kentucky on July 1, 1916 the daughter of Earl and Harriett Davis Lipscomb.
She was married to James Smith on September 5, 1934 and he preceded her in death on October 6, 1982. Survivors include two sons Rev. Robert (Judy) Smith of Versailles and Thomas (Mary) Smith of Ft. Knox, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son James, her parents, her brothers Joe, Ben, and Harvey Lipscomb, and her sisters Velma Bickers and Ruth Lipscomb.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, did cleaning for several people, and had retired from the Gibson Greeting Card Company in Cincinnati. Dorothy was currently a member of the Dabney Baptist Church, but for several years belonged to the Bethel Baptist Church in Alexandria where she taught Sunday School and assisted her husband as church treasurer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 1 at 10am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with her son Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery at Alexandria. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Dabney Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
