Edith M. Bree

**Edith M. Bree**, 90, of North Vernon, formerly of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born near Napoleon on December 4, 1917 the daughter of Charles and Carrie Wagner Spreckelson. She was married to James J. Bree in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1965. Survivors include two sons, James E. Bree of North Vernon and John (Diane) Bree of Lawrenceburg; four daughters, Janice Bree of Milan, Judy (Timothy) White of Florence, Kentucky, Barbara (Harry) Shomaker of Rowlette, Texas, and Ellen Ledford of Greensburg; also a granddaughter and great-grandchildren whom she helped raise including Deanna Haley of North Vernon, Chrishana Creech-Hadley, Tamra Roe, and Erica Kieffer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons Kenneth, Frederick, and Robert, and her daughter Carol. Mrs. Bree was the oldest living member of the Versailles Church of Christ where she participated in the Helping Hands women's group. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, and gardening. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16 at 3pm at the Versailles Church of Christ with Dale Day officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill. Visitation will be Saturday from 1pm until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
