Edward D. Prewitt, 77, of Westport, formerly of New Marion, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at his home. He was born near Perry, Missouri on August 19, 1932 the son of William and Amy Maude Utterback Prewitt. He was married to Shirley Rucker on July 24, 1970 and she survives. Other survivors include three step-sons Walter (Russanna) Lair of Westport, Robert Lair of North Vernon, and Paul Roane of Seymour; two step-daughters Dessie Lozier of Westport and Tammy (Jeff) Reynolds of Bath, Maine; 19 step-grandchildren, 35 step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-son Billy Lair, and one step-grandson.
Mr. Prewitt was a 1951 graduate of Perry High School. He was a former employee of Tom Tepe Chevrolet, Paul Walston Chevrolet, Conn Organ, and retired from Muscatatuck where he worked in dietary. He was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 12 at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Karen Reynolds of the New Marion Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery at Rushville. Visitation will be Sunday from 5pm to 8pm.
Memorials may be given to the New Marion Baptist Church or the Hospice of Decatur County in care of the funeral home.
