Emma Lue Michel, 88, of Osgood
passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at her home. She was born at Osgood on
September 7, 1920 the daughter of Henry and Mercy Bilby Humphrey. She was
married to Melvin Michel on July 5, 1941 and he preceded her in death on October
17, 1985. Survivors include two daughters, Carole Michel of Osgood and Jenny Lou
(George) Schwipps of Milan; grandchildren Ben (Jessica) Schwipps of Osgood and
Andi (Terry) Allison of San Ramon, California; great-grandchildren Ryan and Evan
Schwipps; two nieces, Jamie Stratton of Lafayette and Janine Stratton of Holton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother James Humphrey. Mrs.
Michel was a 1938 graduate of Osgood High School. She was a kindergarten
teacher, having started a kindergarten in Versailles and later teaching in
Osgood. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Osgood, Tri-Kappa, Red
Cross, and the Ripley County Democrat Women's club. She was also past president
of the Osgood Entre Nous and the Ripley County chapter of the Indiana Federation
of Clubs. Mrs. Michel enjoyed reading, traveling, and music. A memorial mass
will be held Tuesday, October 21
at 10am at St. John's Catholic
Church in Osgood with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in the
church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at 9am at the church. Memorials may
be given to the Ripley County Humane Society in care of the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles.
