Emma Pickett, 97, of Osgood, formerly of the Dabney community, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born near Dabney on June 14, 1906, the daughter of Montezuma and Ella Vanosdol Ensminger. She was married to Luther Pickett on December 6, 1926 and he preceded her in death on October 5, 1942. Mrs. Pickett was a 1924 graduate of Holton High School and was their oldest living graduate. She was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Lemen's Grocery Store in Holton.
Survivors include two sons, Everett Pickett and his wife Gail of Louisville, Dale Pickett and Jeannie of Milford, New Hampshire; one daughter Gay White and her husband Ed of Versailles; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, her son Hillis Pickett, brothers Phillip, David, and Van Ensminger and her sisters Betty Bruce, Jenny Cole, and Zelda Stevens.
Visitation will be Friday, February 20 from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 21 at 10:30am with Rev. David Shivers of the Hopewell Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Holton Cemetery.
