Eunice Stamper Hughes Stegemoller

Eunice Stamper Hughes Stegemoller, 88, of Olean passed away Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Waters of Dillsboro Manor. She was born at Farmers Retreat on May 24, 1920 the daughter of William and Nancy Mitts Stamper. She was married to Louis Stegemoller on December 29, 1990 and he survives. Other survivors include one daughter Vesta Ryan of Dillsboro; three sons, Rev. Sherman (Muriel) Hughes of Dillsboro, Charles Hughes of Westville, and George Hughes of Anderson; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Nancy, and her sisters Ila Dennis, Thelma Bruce, and Helen Davies. Mrs. Stegemoller was a 1937 graduate of Dillsboro High School. She had worked at the Blue Star Manor in Dillsboro and was also a cook at Dillsboro Manor retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship where she was active in the ABWM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30 at 11am at the Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery at Olean. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Bear Creek Baptist Church or St. Peter's Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
