Evalee Back, 90, of Cross Plains passed away Monday, May 28, 2012 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born at Hollinsville in Wolfe County, Kentucky on October 2, 1921 the daughter of Esther and Pearl Vancleave Gevedon. She was married to Orville Back on August 24, 1944 and he preceded her in death on April 13, 1990.
Survivors include two sons Mike (Marsha) Back of Versailles and Mark (Brinda) Back of Cross Plains; four daughters Brenda (Paul) Wilson of Cross Plains, Beverly (Larry) King of Versailles, Belinda (Ed) Jane of Purcellville, Virginia, and Benita Back of Huntsville, Alabama; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; four sisters Treva (Walter) Rolf of Indianapolis, Polly (Luther) Holbrook of Middletown, Ohio, Bonnie (Chavis) Miller of Versailles, and Lucille Redwine of Aurora. She was also preceded in death by her grandsons Jeff King and Gregory Back, her parents, her brothers Gardener, David, Esther Ray, and Harry Gevedon and her sisters Martha, Daisy, and Pearlie Gevedon.
Mrs. Back was a homemaker and a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1 at 10:30am at the Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Visitation will be Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9:30am until time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to the church in care of the funeral home.
