Evelyn Comer, 89, of the Hopewell community near Holton passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born in the Proving Ground near Holton on July 1921 the daughter of Fred and Zora Richardson Dudley. She was married to Henry Comer on May 18, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 2011. Other survivors include one son Donald (Gloria) Comer of Holton; one daughter Sharon (Bob) Allen of Charlestown; grandchildren Kevin (Sherri) Comer, Michele (Danny) Speer, and Andy (Sara) Comer all of the Hopewell community, Chris Allen of Wayne City, Illinois and Daniel (Kelsey) Allen of Charlestown; 8 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Thomas A. Comer, and her daughter Connie Jane Comer. Mrs. Comer was a 1939 graduate of Holton High School. Mrs. Comer was a bookkeeper for REMC and her family farm, Evelyn was also a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School Teacher, Hopewell Clover Bees 4H Leader, and very active in the Indiana Pork Providers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 11am at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church building.
