Frederick R. Meier

Frederick R. Meier, 83, of Cross Plains passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007 at the Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida. He was born at Milton, Kentucky on October 24, 1923 the son of William and Edith Smith Meier. He was married to Glendora Burman on November 27, 1971 and she survives. Other survivors include one step-son Rick Thomas and his wife Kathy of Windermere, Florida; one step-daughter Sandra Zaccagnini and her husband Phil of Orlando, Florida; 8 grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn Smith of Cross Plains and Jeannette Oatman of Hillsborough, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Hildegard Herring and Wilma Meyer. Mr. Meier was a 1942 graduate of Cross Plains High School. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he served as a tank driver with the Third Armored Division in the European Theater. He was a farmer, had formerly driven a school bus for the Cross Plains Schools, and served as a mail carrier for 23 years for the Cross Plains post office. Mr. Meier was a member of the Zion New Life Lutheran Church in Gotha, Florida and a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry. He also belonged to the Brown Township American Legion and the Florida Chapter of the Third Armored Division. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2 at 10:30am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Paul Foust of the Zion New Life Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Brown Township American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Zion New Life Lutheran Church or St. Paul's Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
