Garold W. Vankirk, 78, of Napoleon passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home. He was born near Batesville on July 26, 1935 the son of Cloyd and Edna Eaton Vankirk. He was married to Darlene Kreuzman on August 11, 1956 and she preceded him in death on October 1, 2009. Survivors include two sons Bill (Jane Ann) Vankirk, and Bob "Mouse" (Tena) Vankirk both of Napoleon; one daughter Kathy (Brian) Samples of Versailles; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; one brother Raymond Vankirk of Morris. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his twin brother Harold Vankirk. Mr. Vankirk was a 1953 graduate of Napoleon High School. He was co-owner of Schuler Products in Napoleon until 1964 when he began work in the tool and die department of Batesville Casket Company where he worked for 40 years retiring in 2004. Garold was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon and was a 60 year member of the Napoleon Fire Department. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Sister Shirley Gerth officiating. Burial will be in the St. Maurice Cemetery at Napoleon. Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm to 6pm. Memorials may be given to the Napoleon Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
