Gerald R. "Jerry" Peters

**Gerald R. "Jerry" Peters**, 80, of Osgood, formerly of Madison passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 10, 1932 the son of Herbert and Ruth Goulding Peters. He was married to Charlene "Charley" Bowers on March 20, 1954 and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2010. Survivors include three sons Bryan (Beth) Peters of Urbana, Illinois, Craig (Tonya) Peters of Lumberton, Texas, and Michael (Kathy) Peters of Tennessee; two daughters Teresa (Terry) Peters Thixton of Pekin and Katherine (Carl) Taul of Holton; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; one brother Daniel (Helene) Peters and one sister Donna (John) Yaklevich, and sister-in-law Reta (Bud) Friend all of Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Peters was a 1954 graduate of Ohio State University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in journalism. He had worked as the advertising manager for the Madison Courier and other newspapers throughout Ohio and Indiana as well as the Catholic Church publication The Criterion. He was also an independent insurance agent and sold memberships for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Jerry was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison, the Ulster Project, and Knights of Columbus. He was past president of the Jefferson County Easter Seals campaign, was a Kentucky Colonel, and volunteered in many local charities including the Jefferson County Boys Club. In his free time he enjoyed his family, playing bridge, and attending auctions and yard sales. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held Saturday, February 9 at 2pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be at a later date in Columbus, Ohio. Visitation will be Saturday from 1pm until time of services. Memorials may be given to Special Olympics or the Ulster Project of Madison in care of the funeral home.
