Gertrude T. Meisberger, 90, of New Marion passed away Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born near New Marion on June 21, 1921 the daughter of John and Regina Holzer Eckstein. She was married to Romuald Meisberger on September 3, 1938 and he preceded her in death on July 14, 1987. Survivors include nine sons Melvin(Sandra), David(Sherron), Phillip(Rita), John(Diane), Dwight, and Charles Meisberger all of New Marion, Donald(Josie) Meisberger of Camby, Arthur Meisberger of Olean, and Mark Meisberger of Indianapolis; two daughters Dolores (Howard) Souder and Mary (Greg) Hilton both of New Marion; 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law Opal Day of Versailles and Mildred (Damon) Webster of Benham. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Michelle Lynn Meisberger, great-granddaughter Kayleigh Marie Meisberger, half-brothers John, Matthew, and Edward Eckstein, half-sisters Carrie Stewart, Katherine Kurtz, and Margaret Eckstein, brothers Herman, Charles, and Bernard Eckstein, and sisters Irene Doyle and Leona Suttinger. Mrs. Meisberger obtained her high school diploma later in life graduating with the first class at South Ripley in 1967. She was a life member of the St. Magdalene Catholic Church and was also a member of the Ripley County Red Hatters, the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary, and the Homemakers Club. Gertie was a homemaker and had worked as a cook at the New Marion School and the Versailles Elementary School. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 9 at 10:30am at the St. Magdalene Catholic Church in New Marion with Father Shaun Whittington officiating. Burial will be in the St. Magdalene Cemetery at Madison. Visitation will be Thursday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rosary services at 7:30pm. Memorials may be given to the St. Magdalene Catholic Church or Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
