Gladys R. Foster, 87, of Holton passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born at Piner, Kentucky on May 22, 1918 the daughter of William and Sophia Carter Peebles. She was married to Samuel Foster on April 22, 1977 and he preceded her in death on January 29, 2003. Mrs. Foster is survived by one brother, Jewell Peebles of Burlington, Kentucky; two sisters Pauline Britt of Versailles and Eleanora Springer of Indianapolis. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Virgil Peebles, and her sisters Geraldine Bruce, Emmaline Peebles, Bonnie June Patrick, and Evelyn Nuxoll. Mrs. Foster was a 1937 graduate of Versailles High School. She was a WWII veteran where she served with the WAAC. She was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the WAAC Service Ribbon. She was a secretary at Jefferson Proving Ground retiring in 1978. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September at 10am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. David Blazier officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Military graveside services will be given by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 6pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Holton Masonic Lodge or the donors choice.
