Grace M. Eaton, 82, of Versailles passed away Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the Waters of Clifty Falls at Madison. She was born at Defeated Creek in Letcher County, Kentucky on March 31, 1922 the daughter of Arber and Ann Halcomb Sumner.
She was married to Jesse Eaton on June 13, 1942 and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Melitta Hooton and Wanda Bennett both of Madison; grandchildren Dana Hooton of Winston-Salem, NC, David Hooton and Traci Miller both of Charleston, SC, Laura Hooton of Indianapolis, Jeff Jones of Elkhart, Matt Jones of Casopolis, and Jill Humphrey of Hanover along with nine great-grandchildren; two sisters Violet Powers of Muncie and Thelma Bowers of Winter Haven, Florida. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Mary Giroud and Louise Slaton.
Mrs. Eaton was a homemaker and had been employed with the Delaney Wood Heel Factory in Versailles. She was a 54 year member of the Versailles Baptist Church and a life member of the Leora Weare American Legion Auxiliary in Versailles.
Visitation will be Monday, September 20 from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Halcomb officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Jennings County or to the Waters of Clifty Falls in care of the funeral home.
