Harlan M. Day, 88, of Versailles passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 at his home. He was born at Barwick in Breathitt County, Kentucky on September 6, 1921 the son of Kelly and Erasta Stidham Day. He was married to Effie Jones on September 24, 1949 and she preceded him in death on May 6, 2001. He was married to Tisha Garland on October 16, 2005 and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters Norma Lee Hughes of Oklahoma and Becky (Jerry) Hunteman of North Vernon; four sons Norman (Brenda) Day of Napoleon, Dexter (Claudette) Day, Clayton Day, and Clinton Day all of Versailles; two step-daughters Jamie (Steven) Duke of Versailles and Erin (Mike) Bradley of Holton; two step-sons Bryan Garland of Cincinnati and Thomas Scott Garland of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers Joe (Peggy) Day, Dale (LaVerne) Day, and Tom (Lorine) Day all of Versailles; four sisters Pruda Setser, Mary Ellen Thieman, and Pauline Hart all of Versailles, and Lillie Mae Hisle of Greenfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sons Wendell Day and Denver Day. Mr. Day graduated high school in Hazard and had attended the Buckhorn, Kentucky College. He was an Army veteran of WWII and was a 33-year employee of the Jefferson Proving Ground. He was also a founder and charter member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Osgood. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 10 at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mike Cammack of the Bethany Baptist Church and Dale Day of the Versailles Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Gideons, Rescue 69, or the Bethany Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
