Herbert Fugate

Herbert Fugate, 68, of Osgood, died Friday, September 5, 2003 at his residence. He was born at Vest, Kentucky on December 1, 1938, the son of Jasper and Mary Compton Fugate. He was married to Jean Imel on March 20, 1964 and she survives. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Mary Fugate of Moores Hill; one son Paul Fugate and his wife Diane of Morris, daughters Betty Scamahorn of Niceville, Florida and Debbie Hackman of Milan; two step-sons, Tom Stroud and his wife Betty of Rochester, and Steven Stroud of Osgood; two step-daughters, Debbie Stroud of Osgood, and Brenda Messer and her husband Jr. of Osgood; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jay and Sarah Fugate of Milan and William and Roberta Fugate of Holton; three sisters, Lois and Harry Mockbee and Gail and Leonard Haase all of Milan, and Phyllis and Bob Crosswaithe of Moores Hill. Mr. Fugate was preceded in death by his father, his son Vernon, granddaughter Chelsea Hackman, brother Granville Fugate, and his sister Pauline Allen. Mr. Fugate was a 1954 graduate of Milan High School, attended Cedar Creek Community Church and was a member of the Holton Masonic Lodge. He was a former employee of Fernald, was a farmer and a self-employed trucker. Mr. Fugate was President of the Milan CB Helping Hands Club and was an avid outdoorsman and coon hunter. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 8 at 10:30am at the Stratton Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Garland Rudd of the Cedar Creek Community Church officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, September 7 from 5pm to 8pm with Masonic services being conducted at 7:30pm. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital or the Milan CB Helping Hands Club.
