Herman A. Pettit, 81, of Osgood
passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007 at his home.
He was born on Bear Creek near Cross Plains on January 14, 1926 the son of James
and Tida Scroggins Pettit. He was married to Ruby Burnside on June 29, 1944 and
she preceded him in death on August 16, 1989. He was married to Jeraldine
Robertson on June 20, 1992 and she survives. Other survivors include one son
Ritchie Pettit and his wife Darlene of Attica; two daughters, Jerri Thayer and
her husband Doug of Osgood and Darinda Peetz of Greensburg; one step-daughter
Jan Watts of Madison; two step-sons Doug Robertson and Mark Robertson both of
Indianapolis; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was also
preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bud and Bill Pettit, and his sisters
Edna Poling and Hazel Eades. Mr. Pettit was a 1944 graduate of Cross Plains High
School and was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was employed with Seagrams in
Lawrenceburg for 42 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in
Osgood, the Osgood American Legion, Osgood Masonic Lodge, Murat Shrine, and the
Ripley County 40 & 8. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March
at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery at Osgood with military graveside rites
by the Osgood American Legion. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm with
Masonic services by the Osgood Masonic Lodge at 7:30pm. Memorials may be given
to the donors choice.
