Howard L. Smith, 92, of Milan passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Waters of Batesville. He was born near Benham on February 19, 1920 the son of Martin and Pearl Kelly Smith. He was married to Edna Meyer on June 21, 1941 and his wife of 70 years survives. Other survivors include three sons Howard (Marlene) Smith, Jr. of Harrison, Ohio, Jerry (Shirley) Smith of Milan, and Larry (Ileene) Smith of Monroe, Michigan; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters Amanda Smith and Heather Smith, and his brothers Robert, Alvin, Edwin, and Gilbert Smith. Mr. Smith was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry on May 21, 1933 and was a life long member. He was employed with Prebble Construction and was also a self-employed carpenter. Howard enjoyed fishing and hunting. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 9 at 11am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Ralph Campen and Pastor Garry Wickert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Church in care of the funeral home.
