Hubert L. Jackson,
82, of Versailles
passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at his
home. He was born near Versailles on November 13, 1930 the
son of Marshall and Estella Fox Jackson. He was married to
Eva Fern Ricketts at the Tanglewood Baptist Church on
October 21, 1950 and she survives. Other survivors include
three granddaughters Dawn (Steve) Powaga of San Francisco,
Holly Wehr and her fiancé Jordan Harley of Versailles, and
Libby Wehr of Indianapolis; one great-granddaughter Eva
Lou Powaga; two brothers Kenneth Jackson of Osgood and
Marion (Jaleh) Jackson of Terre Haute; also his
brother-in-law Dale Ricketts of Edgewood, Kentucky. He was
preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law Candy and
Greg Wehr, his parents, his brother Willard Jackson, and
his sisters Neva Rea, Margaret Rullman, and Ruth Carter.
Mr. Jackson was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he
attained the rank of Corporal and received the National
Defense Service Medal. He worked in Naval Avionics for 8
years and was employed with the Jefferson Proving Ground
for 14 years where he worked in the ammunition plant and
was a painter. Above all of his jobs though farming and
raising his cattle was what he loved. Hubert was a 65 year
member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church. He was also a
member of the Versailles American Legion, and the
Hart-Parr Oliver Tractor Collector's Club. Funeral
services will be held on Friday, June 7 at 11am at the
Tanglewood Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen
Mullins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery
with military graveside rites by the Versailles American
Legion. Visitation will be Thursday from 5pm to 8pm at the
Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from
10am until time of services Friday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Tanglewood Baptist Church,
Tanglewood Cemetery, or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation
in care of the funeral home.
