Inez E. Elston

Inez E. Elston, 84, of Cross Plains passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born in the Marble Corner community in what is now the Jefferson Proving Ground near New Marion on December 8, 1923 the daughter of Rev. Arthur and Ina Irene Anderson Dilk. She was married to Raymond Elston on February 14, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 4, 1993. Survivors include one daughter Pam Hicks of Cross Plains; grandchildren Tom Downey and Elizabeth Hicks both of Cross Plains and Heather (Ben) Kremer of Jeffersontown, Kentucky; one great-granddaughter Caitlin Downey. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cheryl Elston, and her brothers Vernon and Charles Dilk. Mrs. Elston was a 1942 graduate of Cross Plains High School. She was retired from the Jefferson Proving Ground where she worked in Budget and Finance. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3 at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Scott Elston officiating. Burial will be in the Marble Corner Cemetery at Versailles. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm. Memorials may be given to the Marble Corner Cemetery or Rescue 69 in care of the funeral home.
