Irene Jacobs, 95, of Cross Plains passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born near Cross Plains on December 10, 1912 the daughter of John and Clara Berkemeyer Thomas. She was married to J. Melvin Jacobs on October 24, 1933 and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1994.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law Alethea Jacobs of Versailles; granddaughters Debbie Tewmey and Darla Jacobs both of Versailles, Denise Jacobs, and Dee Ann Jacobs both of Indianapolis. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Glenn Jacobs, and her sister Laura Laker.
Mrs. Jacobs along with her husband owned and operated Jacobs Grocery Store in Cross Plains for over 50 years closing in 1984. She was also a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7 at 11am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Rev. Ralph Canpen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the activities fund at Ripley Crossing or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
