Irene Lavonne Messer, 59, of Cross Plains
passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born in Hazard, Kentucky on January 19, 1955 the daughter of Arnold and Delphia Beverly Combs. She was married to Charles Messer and he preceded her in death on April 15, 2002. Survivors include one son Gary Grigsby and his companion Tammy Hollandsworth of Cross Plains; three daughters Michelle (Eric) Hurst of Cross Plains, Audrey Grigsby and her companion Chris Lothridge of Versailles, and Danielle Messer of Cross Plains; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one brother Randy Combs of Ackworth, Georgia; three sisters Jennifer Combs and Brenda Adams both of Madison, and Glenda Leach of Hanover. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Ellis Combs and Robin Combs. Mrs. Messer was a 1973 graduate of South Ripley High School. She was an LPN and had last worked at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. Irene was a member of the Cross Plains United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20 at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Jerry Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery at Cross Plains. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Cross Plains United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
