J. Wade Thayer

**J. Wade Thayer**, 80, of Osgood passed away Saturday November 20, 2004 at the Hospitality Hall of the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. He was born at Morristown in Shelby County on March 3, 1924 the son of Wade R. and Ruby Johnson Thayer. He was married to Mary Kamman on August 25, 1946 and she survives. Other survivors include one son, Greg Thayer and his wife Yolanda of Winchester; one daughter Kaye Callen and her husband Steve of Milan; four grandsons, Brian Thayer and his wife Melisa of Westfield, Evan Thayer of Winchester, Brad Callen and his wife Amanda of Ft. Wayne, and Matt Callen of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Thayer was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jane Ann, his sister Bernice Brown, and his brothers Earl and Spence Thayer. He was a 1942 graduate of Osgood High School and had attended Purdue University where he majored in poultry science. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he served as a Master Sergeant in the China offensive and the Burma Trail. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He owned and operated M&W Poultry and the Village Flowers in Osgood for several years. He was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church, the Osgood American Legion, Osgood F & AM #603, the Sundowners Club of Cape Coral, Florida, the Indiana Poultry Association, and was a charter member of the Osgood Lions Club. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24 at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Don Buck officiating. Burial will be in the Hanover Cemetery at Morristown. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 23 from 6pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Osgood Masonic Lodge or the Osgood Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
