James E. Boyd

James E. Boyd, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend of many died peacefully on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Waters Batesville. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by family. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends, and his passion for all sports, especially baseball and golf. He was 100 years old. He will be missed by his three children: James E. (Sharon) Boyd, III, of Indianapolis; Charles "Andy" (Linda) Boyd, of Oxford, Mississippi; and Joyce "Cis" (Don) Call of Milan. Mr. Boyd had 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Boyd; and his brother, Robert "Bob" Jackson Boyd. He was born on February 9, 1910, the son of James E. Boyd, Sr. and Gertrude Zimmer in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Withrow High School in Hyde Park in 1928 and attended Miami University. While at Miami University, he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and played both baseball and track at the collegiate level. Jim was married in 1936 to Joyce Leasure Miller. In 1945, the couple moved to Milan where they raised their three children and established the Milan Locker Plant. Jim later worked for Hillenbrand Industries in Sales and Marketing retiring in 1976. In his retirement, he worked for Hoosier Links Golf Course in Milan. In keeping with his wishes, his body is being donated to the University of Cincinnati Medical School for research. The memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Milan United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Open house will start at 4:00 pm, with a service at 5:30 pm and dinner immediately following. Services will be officiated by Rev. Chuck Britt. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Milan Youth Baseball Organization. Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home is serving the family.
